    HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

    (534-548)
    Theodebert, born about 505, was the son of Thierry I (485-534) and Suavegotta, daughter of Sigismund, king of Burgundy. He is also the grand-son of Clovis, king of the Franks (481-511). He succeeded his father as king of Reims in 534. With his uncles Childebert I (511-558) and Clotaire I (511-561), he finally submits the Burgundian kingdom. In 539, it is give Provence and part of Septimania by Vitiges (536-540), king of the Ostrogoths. He died in 548 and his son, Theodebald (535-555) who succeeded him. At his death, the kingdom of Reims met than I Clothaire.
