HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
PROVENCE - COUNTY OF PROVENCE - LOUIS I of Taranto and JOAN OF NAPLES
(1347-1362)
Joan of Naples (1326-1382) married successively Andrew, Duke of Calabria, who was assassinated in 1345, and Louis of Taranto (1362), Jacques III, King of Majorca (1375), and finally Otto, Duke of Brunswick. She was Queen of Naples (1343-1382) and died murdered, leaving the county of Provence to Louis I of Anjou, son of John II. In Naples, Charles III, great-son of Charles II, who succeeded him before being assassinated in 1386.
