Thousands of Beds Recalled After Reports of Breaking, Collapsing During Use

Over 100,000 beds were recalled this week following reports that they were breaking and collapsing during use.
On Thursday, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada issued a recall announcement for the Lucid brand “Platform Beds with Upholstered Square Tufted Headboards.” The beds were imported from Malaysia to numerous stores across the United States by CVB Inc., located in Logan, Utah.
“The recalled beds can sag, break, or collapse during use, posing fall and injury hazards to consumers,” the CPSC said in its recall announcement.
According to the recall announcement, there have been at least 245 reports “of the beds breaking, sagging or collapsing during use, causing 18 injuries, including contusions and bruises.”
Additionally, there were 11 reports of “bed failures” in Canada, while no further injuries were reported.
Lucid has issued a recall for a discontinued model of its platform beds, which the company says were manufactured between 2019 and 2021.
Though production stopped years ago, the recalled beds were sold at major retailers through April 2024, according to the CPSC. Consumers may have purchased them from Amazon, Walmart, Lucid’s website, and other outlets like Bed Bath & Beyond, eBay, Home Depot, Macy’s, Target.com, and Wayfair.
“This recall involves Lucid Platform Beds with an upholstered square tufted headboard in Twin, Full, Queen, King and Cal-King sizes. They were sold in beige, black, charcoal, cobalt, pearl, and stone colors. The recalled beds have wooden support beams and wooden support legs and a white federal law label with ‘Made For: CVB INC, 1525 W 2960 S, LOGAN, UT 84321’ printed on it. The federal law label is located on the backside of the headboard,” the recall announcement said.
The recall announcement states that customers should “immediately stop” using the recalled products. They can then contact the company for a free replacement bed frame.
The recall also states that customers will be required to write “recalled” on the support beams on the bed frame with a marker. They will then send a picture of the bed frame, the support rails and the underside of the bed to the company.
Newsweek reached out to Lucid via email for comment.
In December 2023, the CPSC issued a similar recall announcement for all sizes of the Nap Queen 12-inch Maxima Hybrid of Cooling Gel Memory Foam and Bonnell Spring Mattress after the mattress failed to meet mandatory federal flammability standards.
Mattresses must meet flammability standards under the CPSC. All mattresses manufactured and sold in the United States must be resistant to open flames, such as cigarettes, candles and matches for at least 30 minutes, according to a report by online mattress guide Mattress Nut.
